I can’t wait for you to read Jennifer and Andrew’s unique love story of how they were brought together from Canada to Tuscaloosa and we are thrilled to be a part of their big day. Jennifer and I have worked really close together over the last 6 months and I consider her a great friend now. The amazing vendor team for Jennifer and Andrew’s wedding is: Embassy Suites, Kelly Anne Photography, Lindsay Kessler Designs and OnSite Productions.

How did you meet?

A long, long time ago, back in 2009, Andrew and Jen met on a crowded dance floor at his brother Greg’s wedding to Natalie in Canada. Andrew was working his dance moves back and forth across the dance floor in hope that Jen may looks his way. Jen couldn’t help but watch this cute guy busting a move all by himself out on the dance floor. As he danced back and forth across the dance floor, she thought that she may have noticed him, noticing her.

Jen was thinking, wow, this guy was not only handsome but smooth on the dance floor and ever so nimble on his toes and… the biggest guy she’d seen!

After a few more awesome dance moves, Andrew got up the nerve to make his move. He walked over to introduce himself to Jen, and then he got down on one knee (foreshadowing maybe) and kissed her hand and told her it tasted like rainbows! She loved it!

What has been your favorite date together?

Our favorite date together is whenever we discover a new restaurant. We love trying new foods and places together. One particular date that stands out is when we were in New York City attending a friend’s wedding weekend. The day after the wedding, we took a taxi ride to little italy together. We stopped in at a little place and spend the afternoon enjoying each other, the wine and the food. It was one of those special moments, where we stopped and said to each other that we will remember this date forever – the food, the people and the experience was amazing.

What was the proposal story?

Jen was living  in Ottawa Canada and Andrew had moved to Alabama for his PHd in 2013. The long distance was hard but they made it work knowing that one day they would be able to be together forever.

In December 2015, while Andrew was visiting Jen in Ottawa, he decided that the time was right to ask Jen to be his wife and to have her move to the United States to join him. He is a traditional guys, so it was important to him to make his proposal both memorable and meaningful for both he and Jen. He thought of the perfect plan.

On Christmas morning Andrew woke up early squeezed Jen’s hand in his and wished her a Merry Christmas. When she awoke, he asked her if she was ready to open presents. It was 7am.

He asked her to go  stand in front of their Christmas tree and wait for him. As she stood there, he walked over and took her hands in his, she began to tremble and tear-up with excitement, as she realized, something big was about to happen.

Andrew spoke to Jen, in the sweetest words, and told her exactly what she and their relationship has meant to him for the past 6 years. He told her how the long distance had made them stronger as a couple and that it was time to end that chapter and be together. He promised to love her and take care of her, for the rest of their lives. And then, he got down on one knee, and asked her to marry him.

Jen cried happy tears through the entire thing. It was everything she had ever hoped to hear and when he asked her the question, she said of course I will !!!

After the proposal they spend the rest of the day celebrating with family and friends.

It was the perfect proposal; it was a romantic and a private moment that they will remember forever and celebrate every year on Christmas morning!

They began the immigration process immediately to have Jen join Andrew in Alabama as soon as possible. After the K1 visa process was completed in April, Jen was able to join Andrew and they are now living in Tuscaloosa waiting for their wedding day to arrive.

What is your favorite thing to do together?

The thing we enjoy most together as a couple is being active together, by either swimming or going for long walks. Both Andrew and Jen are water babies who love swimming in pools, the oceans or in Canadian lakes. Enjoying activities outdoors is one of the reasons we’ve left Canada and moved to Alabama.

What are you most looking forward to on your wedding day?

We are both looking forward to sharing our love for each other in front of those that mean the most to us. Most of our guests are travelling from either Ontario, Canada or Ohio so we hope that our destination wedding will feel more like a family reunion than a formal gathering. All the details, have been  planned at this point and it is going to be a great catholic celebration followed by a rocking party. Having been together just over 7 years we are referring to our wedding as the 7 year hitch! We can’t wait to be Mr. & Mrs. Flatt!
