One of my favorite parts of wedding planning is sharing the local town or city of the couple’s wedding into the actual event. Sometimes that may mean highlighting their respective hometown favorites and then highlighting the city we are in, or it can be purely highlighting the city the wedding is being hosted in.

So many of our clients may not be originally from Birmingham or they have moved away for a period of time and are now back, so they tend to entertain a lot of out-of-town guests. Because of that, they generally really want to be sure people enjoy where they are. So today I thought I would share some of my favorite ways to do just that!

When selecting a location for your guests to stay and where the ceremony & reception will be, think about the places you love in town & what would be meaningful to you as a couple. Also when considering hotels, think about locations that are near restaurants, bars, and shopping so guests have things to do during their stay & it is easy to get to.

Some of my personal favorites are the Grand Bohemian Hotel in Mountain Brook, AL, the Tutwiler Hotel in Downtown Birmingham, AL, the Redmont Hotel in Downtown Birmingham, AL, & Aloft Hotel in Homewood, AL

Favors & Gifts

Wedding favors & welcome gifts are some of my favorite ways to incorporate local favorites. Think about locally-made things like chips, cookies, popcorn, sauces, and beers/wines. These are all super popular in welcome gifts as well as for favors. Highlighting the couple’s favorite things from around their city is one of my favorite ways to personalize an event.

Dinner Menu

Personalizing the food you are serving is another great way to incorporate the local flair of where you are. This is particularly great for destination weddings and showcasing what is local to the area. If the chef is using local ingredients is important to you, ask their suggestion of what to include. You can highlight this on your menu or food buffet tags. Host your rehearsal dinner at one of your favorite local restaurants or the after party at your favorite watering hole so your guests see more of the city you love!
